GTA 6 Pre-Order & Pre-Load Guide — Official Dates, Platforms & Everything Confirmed
Source transparency: All guides on GTA 6 Vault are based on officially confirmed information from Rockstar's trailers and announcements, or written from direct gameplay experience. Sections that go beyond confirmed facts are clearly labelled as our own analysis.
Release Date
Grand Theft Auto VI officially releases globally on November 19, 2026 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. This is confirmed directly by Rockstar Games.
The midweek Wednesday release date is unusual — most major titles launch on Friday. No explanation for the choice has been given by Rockstar or Take-Two.
Editions and Pricing
GTA 6 is available in two editions at launch:
Standard Edition — $79.99 USD / £69.99 GBP
The full base game. Available digitally and as a physical code-in-a-box at retail. Includes the pre-order bonus (Vintage Vice City Pack) if purchased before launch.
Ultimate Edition — $99.99 USD
Includes the base game plus additional content. Rockstar has confirmed the Ultimate Edition exists and is priced at $99.99 USD, but the full list of included extras has not been officially published. The $20 premium over the Standard Edition is consistent with how Rockstar structured the GTA 5 Special and Collector's Editions, which bundled in-game currency, exclusive vehicles, and cosmetic content.
There is no physical version of the Ultimate Edition. It is digital-only, available through the PlayStation Store and Xbox Store.
Pre-Order Bonus: Vintage Vice City Pack
All pre-orders — both digital and physical — include the Vintage Vice City Pack. Rockstar has not published the full contents of this pack. It is confirmed to be a cosmetic bonus tied to pre-orders placed before the November 19 launch date.
The pack applies to both the Standard and Ultimate editions.
Pre-Load Start Date
Digital pre-loading officially unlocks at local midnight on November 12, 2026 — one full week before launch. The exact time is based on your PlayStation Store or Xbox Store regional time zone.
This 7-day pre-load window allows players with slower internet connections to have the game fully downloaded before November 19. GTA 6's file size has not been officially announced, but based on GTA 5's PC version exceeding 100GB and the generation leap involved, a large download is expected. Pre-loading in advance is strongly recommended.
Physical Copies — What You Need to Know
GTA 6 physical editions do not contain a disc. Every retail box — across all platforms and both editions — contains a single-use digital download code.
- Physical boxes are available from November 12, 2026 (one week before launch), allowing immediate code redemption and pre-loading
- The code is permanently tied to the account it is redeemed on — it cannot be transferred or resold
- There is no physical disc version planned for launch or after launch
Important: If you order a physical copy online for delivery, the code may not arrive until release day depending on your retailer's shipping speed. If you want the full 7-day pre-load window, a digital pre-order is the only guaranteed option.
Several independent retailers have refused to stock the physical edition in protest of the disc-less model. Major retailers including Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, and GAME are all stocking it.
Supported Platforms at Launch
GTA 6 launches exclusively on:

| PlayStation 5 Pro | ✅ Yes |
| Xbox Series X|S | ✅ Yes |
| PlayStation 4 | ❌ No |
| Xbox One | ❌ No |

Digital vs Physical: Which Should You Choose?
Choose digital if:
- You want the guaranteed 7-day pre-load window starting November 12
- You prefer instant access without waiting for delivery or store pickup
- You want the Ultimate Edition (no physical version exists)
Choose physical if:
- You want a box for your collection
- You prefer paying at a physical retail location
- Your retailer is making the box available from November 12 for in-store pickup
Functionally, both versions download and play identically. The box itself contains no disc.
PS5 vs Xbox Series X|S: Are There Differences?
GTA 6 is confirmed for both PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar's marketing has featured prominent "Plays Best on PS5" branding, reflecting a marketing arrangement between Rockstar and Sony — not an exclusive or a content difference. Both platform versions are confirmed as equal in terms of content.
Xbox Series X|S players can pre-order and play the full game on launch day.
Watch Out for Scams
Since pre-orders opened on June 25, 2026, fraudulent websites have been charging players for fabricated "early access" offers and discounted codes. Rockstar has confirmed these are scams.
Only pre-order from:
- Rockstar Games Store
- PlayStation Store
- Xbox Store
- Authorised retail partners (Amazon, GameStop, Best Buy, GAME)
There is no legitimate early access offer for GTA 6.
